Rabbi Daniel Greer Celebrates A Life Of Appreciation And Humbleness

The founder of Yeshiva of New Haven, Rabbi Daniel Greer, is a man whom the Jewish community have always looked up to for advice and knowledge on different matters, including issues of charitable donations. At the approach of major Jewish holidays, such as Sukkot and Pesach, each child in the family was provided with new clothing by the Tomche Shabbos organization. This was done in order to uphold the children from struggling families to feel at par with their friends and be spared of the shame of poverty.
A volunteer for the community
  • Rabbi Daniel Greer has always encourages his community to support one of the finest organizations Tomche Shabbos of Rockland County. Tomche Shabbos supports people who have lost jobs due to the downturn in the economy, or whose business has failed, in a dignified way. The organization conducts a careful and respectful inquiry into the situation, and offers help once a potential recipient is vetted.
  • Based in the Rockland County area of New York State, Tomche Shabbos delivers food packages to families each Thursday night in anticipation of the Sabbath. Depending on the eligibility, the packages contain only food for the Sabbath, or also food for the following week for the entire family. The household, in most cases, cooks and prepares the food themselves. To an onlooker it may simply appear as though the family has shopped at a local supermarket and had received their order. Not even the children of the family are aware of these details.
There are, of course, many cases in which Tomche Shabbos assists eligible families with payments toward medical bills and towards utility bills. Rabbi Daniel Greer also encourages Yeshiva of New Haven students to volunteer their time helping in the warehouses of Tomche Shabbos.
